Henry Louis Le Châtelier was born
on October 8, 1850. He was the son of Louise Durand and Louis Le Châtelier. His
father was a polytechnic engineer. Engineer Luis played an important role in
the French industry in the nineteenth century.
Henry was a distinguished member of the Legion of Honor (Knight) in 1887
after having elevated an officer rank in 1908, Commander in 1919 and Grand
Officer in 1927. He was awarded the Davy Medal (Davy Medal, distinction of the
Royal Society ) In 1916.
In Chemistry, Henry Le Châtelier is known for:
The Principle of Le Chatelier formulated in 1885 and which is resolved
as follows: If a reversible equilibrium chemical system undergoes a change in
concentration, temperature or pressure, the Balance of the System will be
modified in such a way as to partially counteract the change made to it
I admire it because its discovery allows us to predict the effects of
changes in conditions (such as pressure, temperature and reagent concentration)
in a chemical reaction.
