English Language Challenges

At present, there are many people who believe that learning another language is impossible and others that learning another language is useless. For me to learn another language opens a number of impressive doors, fully extends the activities or jobs we can do. How to visit another country without a tour guide or give talks to foreigners.

But it is not so easy to learn another language, as we learn, we are finding several challenges. A number of challenges vary in each person and the difficulty of overcoming them also, but nothing that a little constancy and perseverance cannot solve.

The challenges commonly encountered are Pronunciation, Vocabulary, and oral interactions.

I have English courses since school, but it was not very good to say. I am currently studying my last English course at the university and compared to the school, they certainly made a noticeable change in my English learning. But it still costs me oral interactions and Pronunciation. When I interacted with my classmates I do not usually understand the totality of words that they tell me, but understanding a few words I get the idea of what they say or ask me, then I answer them with some short phrase without complications so as not to have errors in pronunciation and my partner understands me.

This English course makes me write weekly blogs, which serve to expand my vocabulary.

As for the daily use of English, I must admit that I do not use it much. I usually use it to communicate with foreigners that I find in online games and to read some websites.

Changes To My Study Programme

The changes of a study program are not something that is taken lightly, in my case, I think that this decision was taken lightly only to be able to prove an engineering career in food. I think this because I have annual subjects that are not easy to pass and that are a prerequisite to enrol in other subjects. I think that this generates stress and that causes that some do not pass all the subjects to which they enrolled in the semester. This is undoubtedly totally wrong because the university education is already expensive and increase the years of study only make us have a big headache, which would end until we pay the debt.

So far I have taken an annual course and I failed. This semester I had to enrol in Physical Chemistry but I did not do it because it generated a clash of schedule. This happened because I had to take the annual course that I failed and generated a clash of schedule with Physical Chemistry. This would not have happened if my study program had been carefully planned, he said this because the previous semester I enrolled in all the subjects I could and even took a CFG but even so, I left every day early and I even had a day off. My best friend was in the same situation as me but he took less time because he wants to change his career and left every day at lunchtime.

I hope they change my program or increase the amount of study material, since there are so many subjects that have to be taken per semester that the mere fact of looking for extra material is time lost because the next day of insurance there is a control, next there is a laboratory and the next the delivery of a report. I think that I would not be so worried and I could read this material on the bus and more than 80% of the students would be passing any subject.

Summer Holidays

When I think of summer holidays always my first thought is the heat and the sea. This because my grandparents are from Antofagasta and practically I saw the sea. Then when classes finally end, I can do what I could not do during the study period, I do sports, go to the beach or go out running, like Antofagasta is a large city, I run in the along the coast to a beach called "Trocadero". Despite the heat, the sea breeze helps to withstand it.

When I was just a kid, at this holidays, we were going to the south like  Linares, Los Ángeles and my Favorite place Punta Arenas. We went over there mainly because all our relatives are there, we are the only ones who live in Santiago. Nowadays for summer holidays, my parents are very tired to make a trip of that magnitude, because the most of the times we made it by land, by the need of a car to mobilize in the cities.

When I was in high school, for the summer holidays, me with my friends of the school, we usually go to a very large beach called "Hornitos" (you can make an idea with its name), were a friend has a house and we go to stay for several days. We spent all day in the water and if we don´t, my friend of the house has four-wheelers and a buggy, and like the beach, it´s so very large (approximately one kilometre) he goes at full speed over the sand. I had great times there that I expect to keep doing every summer.

Addiction: From coffee and tea to drugs of abuse

Drugs are much more present in our lifes than we think, even if we don´t consume it. In a normal day in the way to your work, school or anywhere yo go daily, you could easily see in the streets or even the parks someone is consuming some kind of drug, whether legal or illegal, from just a couple of beers to smoking marihuana. Some people don´t difference who is smoking a simple cigarette and who is smoking marihuana, but in the most of the cases, who has tried one of each will recognize at the instant the defference. 

Mainly the smell that emanates, from marihuana is much more harder and more distinctive thatn the cigarette, also the way to grab the cigarette is different of the way to grab the paper of marijuana, grabing a cigarette it is like to do the symbol of piece, grabing the paper of marihuana it is like you hold something little between your index finger and thumb.

With this I could say that I tried more than once, but not too much because it produce a very relaxing sensation, and it is good that sensation, but i don´t like it so often, so I prefer to drink a couple of beers with friends from time to time for the week so heavy or to celebrate something.

In my opinion, the alcohol in the body makes a better feel that any other sustance, obviously drinking it in moderation because if you pass.. you would do things that you wouldn´t normally do and more on top you´ll not remember of it, so although this is not so good to your liver, this helps you get rid of a hard week or notice.Because of this, I can say that I have no addiction for anything, just if you tried something you have the duty to be aware of the effects and self.cares, as it is at your own risk.

On the other hand, "healthier" things like coffee I drink it just for study when I stayes awake at very late hours, for nothing more, so when I drink because I need too stay awake to study, coffee really keeps me awake, even after I´ve stoopped studying, so I go to bed "early" when it is morning.

Post Graduate Studies

Although some of us when we finish school dont know what to study, I think that I had a clear idea of what I wanted to be in the future and next to that I will need to have some post graduates studies, specifically post doctorates studies. For a scientists it´s the most important thing to have post graduate studies if you and your voice want to be recognized by your peers, so I thinked that one of the most recognized academic degrees is the Ph.D, so I started to investigate along all the possible path to get this academic degrees.

But first, I had to look the house of studies which I wanted to be for it, and by many recommendations from several different sides, I decided to look at the Universidad de Chile, thinking that at this university has stronger and developed this field than other universities in the country. Finally, searching in the internet, I found the title of the academic degree that just the name liked so much that I decided to reach it cost what it cost me, so it became my goal, not the last one but one of many. It´s title is called "Doctorate in Sciences, mention in Molecular, Cellular and Neuroscience Biology", the part that caught my eye where the "Neuroscience" part, this field has interested me since high school, but this degree adds the molecular and cellular biology that both sound so interesting that I thinked that this is the study perfect for me.

I said that this mention isn´t my last goal, because this is a way that I dreamed living here in Chile, but in a future after this, I plan to keep studying and investigating outside and reach others academic degrees in many other areas of science, because the focus of Chile isn´t research, this field is not so developed as I would like.

In these last days, I read an official publication of the university senade of the university of chile that I realy liked. Mainly the publication said that they were looking to create a new academic category of ostdoctoral researcher, in which they seek to incorporate about 400 researchers who carry out highly complex investigations at our university in various disciplinary areas. This made me happy because they are giving the importance that deserves the investigation in chile, and the researchers themselves are recognizing their work and effort.

My Future Job

Work is certainly not something to be taken lightly. since it is what allows us to maintain a decent life. Sometimes you should work at any job they offer because you no longer have money to pay off debts in general. That is why each person has a dream job according to the tastes he has, in my case, my dream job is to be able to work in a factory of chocolates or sweets abroad to be able to learn more novelties of the production of these. in Chile, only change the format, but the presentation of the product is rarely renewed. I would also like to return to Chile to tell my exploits to my family. bring them candy and gifts.

As for the salary, I would like it to be enough to fulfill my dream and not be short of money. the first step was to study food engineering to understand more about production processes. I hope to finish my career to find the job of my dreams. I do not care how long it takes me to find it, but I want to work in a chocolate factory or sweets and then retire with a store, selling chocolates or candy for those who work so hard.

Old and New Hobbies: The piggy banks

I do not have many hobbies, but I like to buy the piggy banks and fill them with only one type of coin (10, 50, 100, 500). I do not know why I love it so much, but the moment I like the most is to break it, it's very rewarding.

This hobby started when I was little, when we went out to eat Pomaire. After a rich lunch, we looked for ornaments for the house, but I always looked for toys. But one day I fell in love with the piggy banks, I did not understand until I filled my first piggy bank, it was very rewarding. I remember that the most tedious thing was to collect the types of coins and then change them. But I no longer have that problem, I always try to have 4 piggy banks to fill each with a different currency.
My trick to fill them up faster is not to have coins in my wallet, just bills. This is also a problem because I have to borrow when I want to print some work.
The money I get from piggy banks is spent on video games and food.

Our Amazing Human Body: The Heart

They say that a person without a heart is one who has no feelings and say nothing more. For me the Heart is surprising by its function and its form.

The heart is the muscle that pumps blood rich in oxygen and nutrients to the tissues of the body through blood vessels.

The heart keeps the blood moving in the body unidirectionally, it is a closed circuit, nothing is lost. The atria receive blood returning to the heart, the ventricles pump blood from the heart out.

The arteries carry the oxygenated blood from the heart to the tissues of the body. In the tissues the nutrients are extracted and returned through the veins. The veins carry the blood back to the heart.

Taking care of our heart is very important, for this reason it is essential to avoid foods that are too salty and too sweet, just like tobacco and alcohol. Another recommendation that is important to repeat until the fatigue is to try to exercise regularly, because with these simple practices avoid many health problems, especially all that have to do with complications of the heart.

The Best Holiday

Well, in holidays,I travel south, specifically to "Licán Ray", which is located in the municipality of Villarrica, Araucanía Region, on the northern shore of Lake Calafquén. It is part of the tourism sector known as the seven lakes region.

The last year I was from visit to “Licán ray” with my girlfriend by three days. Now I plan to go with my family the next year, to show them what I went to see. We will visit handicraft fairs where you can find great variety of works in turned wood, fabrics and goldsmiths.

Its Plaza de Armas has wide walkways and several plant species characteristic of the Araucania. We also visit the San Francisco church, an old wooden temple and tejuelas that is located at the end of Calle Cacique Carimán, crossing the bridge over the Melihuén River. The next year maybe we will visit a small beach that is suitable for swimming and water sports, I say perhaps because my family is not very athletic.

“Licán Ray” is the best place, I can relax quietly and enjoy truly my holidays.

A country you would like to visit

Well, I would like visit Australia because they say that is a beautiful place with many green areas and I would like to fulfill the fantasy of many people. The fantasy of seeing a kangaroo in his natural habitat. The kangaroo is unique to Australia and appears on the shield of the country. Kangaroos are the only large animals that travel by jumping and the males struggle as in boxing with their front paws and kicks with hind legs.

There are 55 species of kangaroos scattered throughout Australia. My friends recommended that will visit the island kangaroo for i can gaze at the beautiful nature and many other exotic animals.  For example: Sea lions, koalas, wallabies, penguins and various birds. But they also told me that I need a tour guide, because Kangaroo Island is the third largest island in Australia, after the island of Tasmania and Melville Island. If Australia is as wonderful as they say, I would like to live in a place with ample green areas, Similar to the Kangaroo Island.

My Blogging Experience

My experience writing blogs in general is very good, writing in English is something that helps to familiarize me with the language, but it is also a bit tedious, having to look for words in the translator (several times) since I do not know much English either. Maybe it would be easier than in classes, see the topics to be discussed in blogs, which means that it would be easier if we practiced words related to the topics of blogs (speaking, writing, etc). It would also be a better experience to practice more the "Listening" as it serves for possible evaluations of higher courses. While the "Listening" can be practiced on "uchile platform", I think it would be a better result if we practiced it in class. Like pronunciation, we do oral assessments where we practically memorize how to make the presentation, but in the class, we never practice. Like the cases it was only interactions with our colleagues where practically only spoke those who knew English and knew how to express their ideas correctly. What I am trying to say is that if you are going to take assessments, it is not enough to make a review of what we saw in previous courses to really notice a change in English learning.

Holiday plans

Actually, I'm not a very organized person who plans everything he does, but I do plan my vacations. We still have not got the money to go to "Licán Ray" but we hope that by November we will have the necessary money for these longed vacations.

The subject I liked to study

Like most students, I do not like to study. I am not a very applied student, but if I had to choose a topic that I like, I would choose "derivatives" without thinking twice. This topic belongs to the topic of differential and integral calculus, which I give a second time. Undoubtedly the "derivative" is a topic that I like a lot, in classes they left us solving problems and this towards the most entertaining classes, making time fly by. Derivatives is an issue that is passed in the second year of college. I do not consider it a difficult subject, but first year students are always warned that it is not easy.
Although I really like this subject, the issue that follows hate with all my soul. It is a question of "integrals", it is a matter of reversing the derivative resolution process, but with so many ways of solving it, my mind is blocked, for this matter reprobate differential and integral calculus, but I hope this year can approve without any Problem and even avoiding the final exam.

Henry Louis Le Châtelier

Henry Louis Le Châtelier was born on October 8, 1850. He was the son of Louise Durand and Louis Le Châtelier. His father was a polytechnic engineer. Engineer Luis played an important role in the French industry in the nineteenth century.

Henry was a distinguished member of the Legion of Honor (Knight) in 1887 after having elevated an officer rank in 1908, Commander in 1919 and Grand Officer in 1927. He was awarded the Davy Medal (Davy Medal, distinction of the Royal Society ) In 1916.

The Principle of Le Chatelier formulated in 1885 and which is resolved as follows: If a reversible equilibrium chemical system undergoes a change in concentration, temperature or pressure, the Balance of the System will be modified in such a way as to partially counteract the change made to it

I admire it because its discovery allows us to predict the effects of changes in conditions (such as pressure, temperature and reagent concentration) in a chemical reaction.

I am not really into photography, specially personal or family photos. I have never taken a selfie and I do not enjoy being on pictures in general. However, this does not stop me from enjoying some professional photography.

This photo was taken by the Chilean Manuel Alejandro Venegas Bonilla, most of his photographs are in black and white. The reason for this was said in their social networks: I want to know my urban work and my way of seeing life as it is, without background lights, or computers that improve reality.

For me the best photograph that represents the way of seeing the life of Manuel Alejandro Venegas Bonilla is Dog on New York Street, street photography (taken in December last year). Which certainly tells me that life does not always treat you well.

MY FAVOURITE MUSICIAN OR BAND

Really my favorite musician or band is changed from time to time, my musician and the favorite band have been many. As for example: Alex Ubago, Reik, The Weeknd, Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, Bon Jovi, Nickelback, Avenged Sevenfold, The Chainsmokers among many others. This is because I use the app "Spotify" and I have a great catalog of music to choose from.

Currently my favorite musician is Carlos Rivera, the genre of his music is Romantic ballads and latin pop. During my last vacation, I found in the "Spotify" app his last album called "Yo Creo", which I listened to every time I shower. While I shower, I liked to sing the songs of this album, because they were very easy to remember and makes taking a shower more fun.

Surely, after some time I will have another favorite musician or band.

MY FAVOURITE PIECE OF TECHNOLOGY

Technology is an important part of my life, apart from making my life easier, it has made me angry and made me happy. What I am trying to say is that I am most of the day in front of a technological apparatus.

Every day on my way to college, I'm listening to music on my smartphone. Then, when I go home, I also listen to music, but most of the time I fall asleep during the journey. When I finally get home, the first thing I do is turn on my laptop and download movies, while I check my mail and do my homework.

After doing my tasks I use my favorite technological device, a PlayStation. Since childhood I remember having one and I currently have two. They were always my Christmas present, but last year I wanted to buy one with my own money. I usually use it as a distraction, but I've also met some good foreign friends.

If I do not use the technology, I would definitely be restless, looking for a distraction.

WHY DID I CHOOSE THIS CAREER / STUDY PROGRAMME?

As a good Chilean, I decided at the last minute. Obviously, studying food engineering was not my only choice, ever since I was a small child I imagined myself in different professions as an astronomer or archaeologist, but never investigate. Until the time came for the truth, time to take one of the most difficult decisions of my life. A decision that made my parents feel proud.

I began to investigate the program of different universities, beginning with those of astronomy and archeology. But I did not like it too much. Then my father helped me with my choice, mentioning engineering and its different variables. Deciding in food engineering at the University of Chile, mainly for his field of work and the employability he had.

My job expectations have always been the same. I want a stable job, in which I have time to share with family. But first, I must overcome the difficult study program I decided to take. It is really stressful how difficult it is, but I made very good friends who have helped me throughout the program.

Hello, my name is Angelo and I am 20 years old. I was born in Santiago, the 30 March 1997 at the hospital of the Catholic University. I live with my mother in San Bernardo and study in Independencia.
I began to study the 2016 Food engineering at the University of Chile and is very demanding program. I have to study almost every day in order to get good grades.
Maritza Martínez Peralta is my mother and supports me in everything, but gets angry when I am in my free time because it says that I am a lazy. My hobby is playing video games, I also like the pastry, but I only do when there is a special occasion, as in the birthday of my sister.
